Head DOjo instructors
Roy Stuart - 6th Dan
Roy commenced his Karate journey back in the year 1987 in England, under the guidance of Sensei Ahmed Omer, a distinguished JKA instructor. Sensei Omer, originally hailing from Egypt, relocated to England before establishing his very own martial arts institution known as the Academy of Shotokan Karate Association. It was within this reputable institution that Roy honed his skills diligently, culminating in his attainment of the first-degree black belt, referred to as Shodan, in the year 1993. In 2000, Roy started training in Japanese-style Kempo jujitsu by training under Sensei Terry Clark, setting the foundation for his martial arts pursuits. By 2007, his dedication and hard work paid off as he accomplished the rank of Nidan in JJJ, showcasing his continuous growth and commitment to his practice.
This multifaceted approach to his training not only contributed to Roy's technical proficiency but also cultivated a well-rounded understanding of the principles and values embodied in the practice of Karate. In 1990, displaying his skills as a dedicated brown belt, he enthusiastically participated in the English National Black belt Karate championships, showcasing his talents in team Kata and team kumite. Despite not clinching a medal position, the event proved to be an invaluable learning opportunity, especially when he faced off against formidable opponents from the English National Team in team kumite, further honing his technique and determination. In his earlier years, Roy excelled in karate competitions, claiming 1st place in Kata and 2nd place in Kumite at various tournaments. However, a significant milestone came in 2023 when he won a Gold Medal at the IKD National Tournament, where he competed in Team Enbu, alongside talented martial artists from across the country. Roy currently is a 6th Dan which he achieved in December 2015 under the head of IKD Shihan Frank Woon A Tai. Roy has been running the Charlottetown IKD since 2013 when Sensei Daphne Gill could no longer teach the classes and asked himself and Doug Dennis to take over. This was an easy decision as Roy had a lot of experience from running his own dojo back in England from 1996 to 2011 -Kamae Shotokan Karate Kai.
